Music Monday: Electric Light OrchestraPosted: March 7, 2011
Electric Light Orchestra or ELO for short, were pioneers of “Symphonic Rock” for their combination of guitars and violins. I’m not usually a big fan of classical music, but I’m a sucker for violins in rock or pop music. ELO’s song “Living Thing” was a smash hit from their 1976 platinum-selling album “A New World’s Record.”
In August 2006 “Living Thing” was named #1 in British music magazine Q Magazine’s list of Guilty Pleasures. The list was designed to celebrate ‘uncool’ but excellent records. Patti Quatro, sister of Suzi “Leather Tuscadero” Quatro, sang uncredited vocals, particularly the ‘higher and higher’ parts. I agree with the Q Magazine poll. It is a great song, so I can forgive the excessive use of the kaleidescope effect in the video.
